Statistical consulting for research
Analysis that holds up to your committee and your reviewers.
Study design, the right test for your data, and a write-up you understand well enough to defend it yourself.

Who this is for
Grad students
Your thesis or dissertation needs analysis you can explain at your defense, not output you copied from a stats package and hope nobody asks about.
Faculty & clinicians
You have a study, a dataset, or a grant application, and no statistician on the team. You need the methods section right the first time.
Research teams
You're designing a survey or study and want the sample size, instruments, and analysis plan settled before the data comes in, when it's still cheap to fix.
What researchers call me for
"How many participants do I need?"
Power analysis and sample-size justification for your grant application, ethics submission, or proposal. A small task with big consequences: an underpowered study fails before it starts.
"My data is in. Now what?"
The full analysis: assumption checks, the right test (not just the familiar one), effect sizes alongside p-values, and tables and figures ready for your manuscript or thesis.
"A reviewer says my stats are wrong."
Reviewer-response support. I'll tell you honestly whether the reviewer has a point, and either way, help you write a response grounded in the methods literature.
"Does my questionnaire measure what I think?"
Reliability, validity, factor analysis, and SEM for scale development and survey instruments.
"I need to understand my own analysis."
A working session where I walk you through what was done and why, until you can explain it without me in the room. Especially before a defense.
Methods I work in: t-tests, ANOVA, Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney, regression (linear, logistic, mixed/multilevel), SEM and latent-variable models, psychometrics, power analysis. Software: R, SPSS, Python.
What I will and won't do
I advise, analyze, and teach. You write, submit, and defend your own work.
That means I'll design the analysis with you, run it or review yours, and make sure you understand every step well enough to own it. I won't ghost-write your thesis, and if your university or ethics board has rules about outside statistical help, I'll work within them. Supervisors are welcome on any call.
This line protects your degree. It's not negotiable, and the students I work with are glad it's there.
Why me
An electrical engineering background, a postgraduate diploma in data analytics, and four years working with enterprise health data in BC, where analysis had to hold up to clinical, operational, and executive scrutiny. I bring the same standard to studies, surveys, and theses: methods chosen for the data you actually have, not the data the textbook assumed.
If I'm not the right fit for your project, I'll say so on the first call and point you somewhere better.
How it works
We talk, free of charge
Ten minutes on your question, your data, and your deadline.
You get an honest read
What your data can and can't support, and what the work would involve.
Your data stays protected
Confidentiality agreement first; de-identified data wherever the analysis allows. If an ethics board governs your project, I work within its requirements.
You get something you can defend
Analysis, tables, figures, and a plain-language interpretation, plus the understanding to stand behind it.
What it costs: a fixed price, not an hourly meter
Every engagement is quoted as a fixed price, sized to your project: a full thesis analysis and a standalone power calculation are very different jobs. You'll get that quote after the first (free) call, with no hourly meter running while you think. Ask me for typical ranges on the call.
FAQ
Is it allowed to get statistical help for my thesis?
Almost always, yes. Statistical consulting is a normal part of research, and many universities run consulting units themselves. The line is authorship: the analysis decisions and writing must be yours to own (see "What I will and won't do" above). When in doubt, ask your supervisor, and bring them to the call.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. Most of my research clients are outside the Okanagan. Calls are over video, and data is exchanged securely.
How fast can you turn around a sample-size calculation?
Usually within a few days of receiving your study details. Tell me your deadline on the first call and I'll tell you honestly whether I can meet it.
Can you work with data I've already collected?
Yes, that's most of my work. But if you haven't collected yet, talk to me first: design problems are cheap to fix before data collection and expensive after.
What software do you use?
R, SPSS, and Python. You'll get output and files that work with whatever your department expects.

Have a thesis, a dataset, or a reviewer problem?
Tell me what you're working on and I'll tell you honestly how I can help.
The first call is free, with no obligation after it.
